Sites of Seattle

We have all been bad, bad siblings for not updating the blog... but now we have some new photos and stuff from our trip to Seattle. Despite its reputation for dreary weather, we had mostly beautiful days, warm with sunshine - only one day was overcast, and that was the day we left. We did some really cool stuff, even though we both worked (Elaine more than me, but I did do a half day just about every day).

Seattle has an "underground" section, parts of the city that were built over in the years following a devastating fire in the late 1880s. We took a 90-minute walking tour of parts of the old subterranean city, and it was really cool.

We also visited Pike Place Market just about every day; the food was just awesome. Most of the local restaurants get their ingredients from the Market, so all the food is really fresh - we actually ate pretty healthfully while we were there. The Market is also the place where the guys throw the fish.

Microsoft (Elaine's hosts) threw a party at Paul Allen's Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum, and we had a good time there. They had a huge Jimi Hendrix exhibit.

I got a chance to go to the Seattle Art Museum, which was just re-opened this month after a huge renovation. It was an awesome museum... although I spent about fifteen minutes wandering around trying to find the art. Once I did, though, I just got lost in it - I spent about two and a half hours there and it was excellent.

The Yankees were in town, playing the Mariners (who, I believe, won both games), so we did have to contend with Yankees jerseys all over the place, but aside from that the people were really nice. We met a great lady on the plane out from Boston who wrote down lots of directions and recommendations of places to see and restaurants to eat at.

And, yes, just in case you are wondering: this is a Starbucks across the street from... a Starbucks.
